An avid sailor and a long standing insurance professional…
Despite being born in Cornwall and coming from a family with strong links to the sea, George did not enter sailing through the traditional route. He instead stepped straight onto big boats in his twenties. Introduced to sailing at the Joint Services Adventurous Sail Training Centre in Gosport whilst serving in the Royal Navy Reserve he was instantly hooked. After moving to work at Lloyds of London he was introduced to racing on Lutine.
George has owned a number of boats of various sizes and nowadays when he’s not working, George can be found cruising his Sparkman & Stephens sloop “Ugly Duckling” around the Solent. A keen yacht racer, he is currently the racing secretary of the of the Sparkman & Stephens Association and in 2019 was awarded their Global Regatta Trophy.
George has also been involved in sail training and in particular introducing adults with learning difficulties to yachting as a trustee of the charity Ausome. He has previously sat on the committee of the Solent IRC Owners Association and JOG.
With over 20 years of experience in the insurance industry, George started working as a claims handler in 2001, after gaining 3 years experience he moved to Lloyds of London where he worked for both John Holmes & Sons and JR Clare. In 2011 George moved out of the London market to become claims manager at a specialist litigation insurer before joining the Stoneways team in 2021 as Yacht Manager. George enjoys combining his passion for sailing with his insurance expertise.
