Why Boat Insurance and Photography?
We excel at and love providing great boat insurance for the UK boating community, but for most sailors it is a dry subject which once a year requires necessary focus! To ourselves at Stoneways Marine, boat insurance is about enabling fun and enjoyment out on the water with the peace of mind you are protected if anything were to go wrong.
Our annual Amateur Boating Photographer of the Year competition is all about capturing images of boating joy and bringing some colour into the boat insurance process! It’s about sharing the excitement of boating with the world and reminding ourselves during cold winter days what we have to look forward to when the sun comes out and the boating season kicks in. As such we are pleased to launch our 2024 boating photography competition.
2024 Amateur Boating Photographer of The Year Competition Details
The 2024 Stoneways Marine Amateur Boating Photographer of the Year Competition is now open for entries, with the theme being ‘Boating Through a Lens’. We all individually view life through our own unique lens and in 2024 we are looking to discover as many different perspectives as possible on what makes boating special.
The competition judges would like to see photos capturing the small details that make boating a joy, from your point of view. They will be looking for artistic, visually appealing images which show skill in photo composition and technique. It is a free pass to let your creativity to run wild.
The competition closes on the 6th October 2024, so there is plenty of time over the summer to take images which provide a glimpse into your mind and reveal which elements of boating bring you satisfaction on and around the water. To provide as much freedom as possible, photos can be from the coast or inland waterways, from trade or leisure activities, looking from land or water.
The best images will be included in the 2025 Stoneways Marine Calendar and feature in a gallery on the Stoneways Marine web site. The top three images selected by a panel of judges from the Stoneways Marine team will win prize packages as follows.

Our Stoneways Marine Amateur Boating Photographer of the Year Competition is becoming a popular event in the marine industry with more and more entries received year on year. The competition is a great opportunity for all amateur boating photographers to show off your talents through the lens. See the winners of the 2023 competition here.
To provide a starting point for inspiration, we’ve looked through our own image collections and provided some examples. Your image could be a visually appealing one of fenders lined up in perfect row, a reflection in a polished winch, a perfectly tied knot or coil of rope on a pontoon. It could be a swan and her cygnets swimming in a marina, a heron sitting on a lock gate, your ensign fluttering in the breeze or a perfect sunset off the bow.
